Locality is a national membership network supporting local community organisations to be strong and successful. They provide specialist advice, peer-learning, resources, and campaigns to create better operating conditions for their members, as well as managing a number of grant giving programmes.

We have worked with the Locality team since 2010 to help them plan their management processes and develop their Salesforce CRM to manage DCLG funded contracts: Community Organisers, Neighbourhood Planning, and Our Place projects.

We have also worked with Locality Pool and undertaken two social impact studies for a national health care programme and third sector training programme.

One of the biggest challenges for Locality was moving their grant management online – as it was previously operating from a plethora of Spreadsheets! We set up Salesforce so that grants could be managed through Salesforce – from application, through assessment, to approval. And because Salesforce is cloud-based, it made collaborative working across different locations very simple. 

Locality have teams in many different locations across the UK, and hold sensitive data in their system, so we also established a system for multi-partner national access with security controls.

We also utilised a range of apps for them, including pdf/document mail merge app, online form synchronisation and integrated payment forms. 


As Salesforce is cloud-based, having one unified platform liked together all their office locations, making collaboration and consistency possible where before it had been very challenging. Chatter, Salesforce’s social network, made simple communication with the whole team easy and effective.

Salesforce’s automation capabilities have led to a huge increase in efficiency, thanks to direct capture of info in to Salesforce, process automations, simple creation of complex documents and powerful, simple to use reports.

Their robust Salesforce system now gives Locality the confidence to bid for more contract work, as well as the track record and credibility to win these contracts.
